Our First Hike Together - A Trip to the Mexican Border
This is a throwback post to when Kelly and I first met; this hike took place in December 2015. We had gone on a short hike to Fairbanks Arizona a few days before, but this was really the first long, nearly full day that we spent together. I quickly learned that Kelly really enjoys playing tour guide. Of course she'd been up to Coronado National Monument before, but she was really interested in showing it to me. We started out up in the parking lot looking out at the mountains all the way over in Mexico. I can't remember if we tried to go down any of the paths from the parking lot or not. In fact, in hindsight it might even be a stretch to call this a "hike" ... Kelly says I referred to it as a "car hike" at the time.
After we visited the monument, we went down and drove (and occasionally walked) along the road right next to the border. I remember being a bit astounded that it was just short posts with a couple of strings of wire. Certainly nothing that would have been terribly formidable to jump; although I wasn't tempted at all
Finallly, we drove out to Parker Canyon Lake to have a bit of a look around before it was time to head back to Sierra Vista to meet Kelly's kids after school.
This was the beginning of a tradition we would share many more times; just walking and talking ... about anything and everything; not just what we were seeing at the time.
