Hike #34 Carr Falls at dusk, after a full day of rain
It rained pretty much all day on Tuesday here in Southeast Arizona. Initially this was more of an annoyance than anything, as I had to take my son to and from the orthodontist in Mexico. But on the way back, I began to realize how likely this made it that the water over Carr Falls would actually be running … my excitement grew by the minute ~
By the time we arrived back in my neighborhood, many of the streets were virtual streams. The water was bubbling up through the washes and over the curbs.
But from the end of my street I can see Carr Falls, and sure enough water was flowing right over the edge at the top!!!
Even though dusk was approaching, I managed to convince my youngest daughter to hop in the car and go with me to the falls. We were richly rewarded for our efforts.
We climbed about halfway up and enjoyed some really nice views both of the water, and looking back over the city of Sierra Vista. I really wanted to go much further, but it was too close to dark for comfort.
We stopped to get a couple more pictures of the falls on the way down. My camera used its flash, but also had a nice slow shutter effect that made the water appear nice and smooth, and kind of glowing.
But then things got a little interesting on the way back down, as it wasn’t always easy to see the trails.
Fortunately I’m familiar enough with this route that we made it to the bottom safely!
